Biography

rachelle5.jpgArt has always been important to me. I love to create! I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t creating. Ever since I was able to pick up a paintbrush, or convince my mom that I could use her sewing machine, I’ve been a little Martha Stewart in the making! Although, out of all the curious interest buzzing in my brain, illustration always stood on top. Illustration is my passion!

I attended NSCAD University, achieving my Bachelor of Design in 2005. From my experience as a designer, I’ve completed many projects including web sites, brochures, logos, stationary, and much more. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with various talented art directors, creative directors and other designers that have contributed to my unique aesthetic style. I left my career as a designer to dive head first into the amazing world of children’s illustration!

I am currently working as a full time illustrator. I enjoy being involved in a variety of projects, although I am particularly interested in children’s books and greeting cards. A couple of my favorite picture books include ‘Olivia’ by Ian Falconer and ‘The Giving Tree’ by Shel Silverstein.

My illustrations are completed digitally and I wouldn’t have it any other way! From my work as a Graphic Designer I am programmed to ‘undo’ a mistake in a matter of seconds. This can’t always happen on paper! I love the freedom I feel on the computer, to test out various poses, compositions, line quality, and colours without the need to completely redraw an image. I bring a unique aesthetic and energy to my illustrations that bring life and excitement to any project! I love illustration that is simple and clean but has big emotion!

In my free time (the little that I have!) I love to paint. I also love all kinds of crafts, sewing, photography, and I adore baking warm, yummy cookies for my husband on a crisp fall day!
